August 5, 2016
A handicapped-accessible playground for children in Dutchess County, a project supported by law firm Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP, has opened with a second phase being planned for 2017.
The inspiration for Julie's Jungle was Julie Keating who passed away in 2007 at age 15. She used a wheelchair for mobility but loved playing outside. Her teen sister, Natalie Keating, submitted a proposal in 2012 for an adaptive playground in memory of her sister to Hopewell Junction town officials as part of an English class writing assignment.
According to Janet McHugh, a member of the Julie’s Jungle board of directors, the park opened in July and was funded by $425,000 raised through donations. The playground features ramps, spacious decks, short stair heights and Braille play panels. An additional $120,000 has been raised for phase two of the project which will include additional equipment, a sensory garden, and special play surfaces.
Julie's Jungle is located at 5 Old Lime Kiln Road in Hopewell Junction. More at this link.

The two men are partners in Our Ability, a network of consulting, public speaking, recruitment and professional services that champions the inclusivity of people with disabilities in the workplace.
This year's ride marks the launch of the New York Business Leadership Network, a coalition among businesses in New York State interested in both hiring and building supplier diversity of businesses owned by individuals with disabilities. The NYBLN was formed by Our Ability in December of 2015 in response to Governor Andrew Cuomo's 2014 executive order establishing the Employment First Commission to create employment opportunities for people with disabilities in New York. The executive order calls for 100 businesses to commit to formal policies to hire people with disabilities as part of their diversity strategy.
Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde law firm is a sponsor of the Our Ability Journey Along the Erie Canal which begins in Buffalo and concludes July 8 in Albany.
Born as a congenital amputee without full arms and legs, Robinson overcame countless obstacles to become a successful businessman, husband, father and inspirational speaker. In 2011 he founded Our Ability with Hamlin, a 28-year veteran of the software industry who is also disabled as the result of an accident. At Our Ability they mentor and inspire people with disabilities through positive video stories. In 2014, Robinson was one of 10 people nationally named a White House Champion of Change for Disability Employment.
