Frankel Named Board Chair of Northeastern Association of the Blind

Richard A. Frankel, a partner with law firm Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP, has been named chair of the board of the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA).

NABA provides a wide range of services to individuals with visual impairments in 14 upstate New York counties to help them overcome the challenges of vision loss and lead more productive and independent lives.

Programs and services include training and placing legally blind adults in professional employment, and providing rehabilitation services to seniors with age-related vision loss. NABA also provides free vision screening for children 18 months to 4 years old through its KidSight Program.

When the bridge over the Schoharie Creek collapsed in 1987, the New York State Thruway Authority filed suit for $114 million against firms which designed and constructed the bridge in 1954.

Partner Rick Mitchell to Lead Family Services Board

Family Services has announced that Richard A. Mitchell, Esq., of Poughkeepsie, New York, has been named board chair succeeding Paul Haering.

Mitchell, a partner with the law firm Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP and lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, formerly served on the board of directors for Family Services.

Brian Doyle, CEO for Family Services, remarked, “We are extremely fortunate to have Rick Mitchell leading our board. Beyond his vast community services experience, Rick is clearly passionate about our agency’s mission and ongoing success.”

Rick has long been an active community volunteer. In addition to serving in leadership roles with Family Services and United Way of Dutchess County, he has served as president of the Community Foundation of Dutchess County and been a board member of Vassar Brothers Hospital Foundation, American Heart Association, Bardavon 1869 Opera House, and Dutchess County Boy Scout Council.

His legal practice is focused on health care, banking, bankruptcy, workouts and commercial litigation, and corporate and transactional matters. His health care practice includes representation of physicians with respect to practice formation, choice of entity, governance, employment agreements, and regulatory compliance. His banking and workout practice involves representation of banks and corporations as lenders, in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases throughout New York.

Maria DeWald will serve as vice-chair, Peter Leonard as treasurer, and Geraldo DePorres will continue as secretary for Family Services.

Part of the community since 1879, Family Services has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 135 years. Family Services provides programs and services in the Hudson Valley such as: Youth Services, Comprehensive Support for Victims of Domestic Violence and Other Crimes through the Center for Victim Safety and Support, Forensic Services Substance Abuse Prevention and Family Education; all designed to strengthen individuals, families and community.

 A key program of Family Services is the Family Partnership Center, a 100,000 + square foot center in Poughkeepsie where currently 19 not-for-profit and related organizations are brought together in partnership for the purpose of collaboration toward a unified approach to human services and building community.

The mission of Family Services is to help families and individuals help themselves through direct services, collaboration, and advocacy. Last year over 6000 children, adults, and families benefited from Family Services programs. Family Services has programs in Dutchess and Ulster counties, as well as an affiliate, Hudson Valley Mental Health which provides behavioral health services throughout Dutchess and Ulster Counties.


Frank Izzo is Law Firm Senior Associate

Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde law firm has named Frank P. Izzo senior associate. Izzo has been an associate since joining the firm in 2009. He practices in the areas of commercial litigation; health care; condominium; bankruptcy; corporate; labor and employment; and insurance law.  Frank also serves as special litigation counsel for towns and villages.

Frank, below, teaching martial arts for Kidsafe Youth Programs, a community organization offering martial arts instruction to area youth, including economically disadvantaged children who quality for financial assistance through the organization’s scholarship program.

He is a member of the American Bar Association; American Health Lawyers Association; New York State Bar Association; Association of the Bar of the City of New York; and the
Defense Research Institute (Young Lawyers Committee and Committee on Professionalism and Ethics).

He is an active participant in the community and volunteers with Empower Youth, Kidsafe Youth Programs and the Town of Poughkeepsie Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE).

Frank is a graduate of Western New England University School of Law and received his B.A. from Mount Saint Mary College.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of law firm administration and/or management experience, including supervisory responsibility

Poughkeepsie Office Adopts Family for the Holidays

Programs offered in the Poughkeepsie region include youth, family, community safety, victim services and a family partnership center. The organization also offers a 24-hour crisis line and services for victims of crime, rape and domestic violence.

Queenan Addresses Law School Alums

John F. Queenan, managing partner of ICRH, presented at an Albany Law School education program for recent graduates on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Albany Law School.

John, a 1996 graduate of the law school, spoke about conducting witness interviews and investigations with a focus on the importance of preparation, potential issues in individual v. corporate/employer/employee interviews, applicable ethical rules and context specific requirements, interview tactics and best practices for resolving difficult issues associated with interviews in investigations.

Compliance Conference Addresses Risks and Trends

John F. Queenan, managing partner of Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP, participated in the 18th Annual Health Care Compliance Conference held October 13, 2016, in Rochester, New York. The conference, presented by the University of Rochester and held at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, addressed issues relating to compliance programs, cybersecurity, the 340B drug program, and health care fraud.

The program’s keynote session included a panel of leaders from the U.S. Department of Justice who covered topics ranging from emerging fraud trends to the “Yates Memo” and its impact on corporate investigations, prosecutions and settlements. Panelists included Kathleen Lynch, Esq., Assistant U.S. Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice, Western District of New York; Adam Katz, Esq., Assistant U.S. Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice, Northern District of New York; and Peggy McFarland, U.S. Department of Justice, Western District of New York.

Additional sessions covered minimizing whistleblower risks, HIPAA privacy, electronic medical records, and IT security.

Queenan Provides Outreach for State Bar at Law Student Program

ICRH partner John F. Queenan took part in a Meet the Sections event at Albany Law School on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, as a representative of the New York State Bar Association Commercial and Federal Litigation Section.

The event provided law students the opportunity to learn more about the New York State Bar Association and how to become an active section member. The program also shared information about how membership in the State Bar benefits both students and practicing attorneys.

David Restrepo Joins ICRH

David E. Restrepo has joined the Albany law office of Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP as an associate attorney. He will focus his practice on health care and litigation. As part of the ICRH Health Care Practice Group, David will counsel major health care institutions and providers on a full range of transactional and regulatory matters. 

David most recently served as a law clerk for The Honorable Ellen L. Koblitz, J.A.D., Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division. David previously worked as an Appellate Court Attorney with the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department. 

David is a magna cum laude graduate of Pace University School of Law. He served as managing editor of the Pace Law Review, participated in the Federal Judicial Honors Program and served as president of the Latin American Law Students Association. He received a B.A. in Political Science from Montclair State University.

Pausing to remember…

The flag flying outside the ICRH Albany office at this time of year commemorates the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. 

The flag flew over Camp Baharia, Al Fallujah, in Iraq in January of 2007. It was presented to ICRH by Capt. Nathan Iseman, USMC, when he returned from a second tour of duty in Iraq.

Capt. Iseman is the son of Robert H. Iseman, one of the firm’s founding partners.

Kara A. Matejov has joined the Albany office of Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP as an associate attorney. Kara is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School where she received a Certificate in Business Law.  She will focus her practice on litigation, compliance and health care matters. She was most recently a legal fellow at the New Jersey Bureau of Securities. She interned at several New York City law firms and was a compliance intern with insurance firm, Marsh.
